Towing is a lot easier now a days, and we have technology to thank for that. The boys over at Autoblog took a 2018 GMC Sierra Denali out to Utah over the summer and man Jonathon write a good article. So let’s talk about why even a luxury truck can make an awesome tow rig.
ENGINE:
Even the smallest of the LS series engines generates some serious numbers. The 5.3-liter V8 is generating 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque and if you decide you want even more power the 6.2-liter V8 generates a whopping 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. Those are some big numbers from small block naturally aspirated engines.
CAMERAS AND MORE:
The Sierra Denali offer customers a trailer reverse camera system that helps the driver align truck to hitch with pinpoint accuracy. Adding further benefit, the same technology can then be used once the trailer is attached to help assist the driver in reversing the trailer. But that’s not the only camera, there are cameras all along the truck giving you a 360 view and will mesh the video feeds together to give you a simulated aerial view, this helps greatly when trying to calculate your swing radius while navigating a truck stop or a parking lot. You also have Side Blind Zone Alert, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Warning, and our favorite feature:
Trailer Sway Control:
This amazing little feature senses when a towed trailer begins to sway and applies tow vehicle brakes and/or dials back engine power to bring trailer back under control. When paired with the Integrated Trailer Brake Controller and a trailer with electric brakes, the trailer’s brakes may also be applied to help stabilize the trailer.
